Another season has come and gone at CBTC.

We hope you enjoyed tennis this 2021 season and hope to see you in 2022!

Big thank you to all the student volunteers who helped cleanup the courts to close off the season.

The City of Ottawa has recently provided clubs with the safety measures to be put in place in order to operate this season, with the caveat that things can change. CBTC courts will open once we have requirements in place, and not before May 22nd.

In order to open, the Club needs a safety plan that includes:

  • the implementation of an online court booking system, as members will have to book courts in advance
  • a procedure for COVID-19  screening of members prior to play and the retention of that information for potential contact tracing
  • steps on how we will keep members up-to-date on current protocols to control the risk of transmission
  • no guest play permitted

Some good news! The City of Ottawa is now allowing doubles tennis play (not pickleball).

  • You must maintain a 2m distance at all times.
  • Wear a mask until play commences.
  • Complete the Covid Screening questionnaire before play commences.
  • Ottawa Public Health also encourages everyone to try to keep activities limited to people within your household.

Please note that this decision is for tennis only and does not include doubles pickleball play. The Ontario Pickleball Association does not recommend doubles play at this time, as it is not possible to maintain a 2m distance.

Lessons are still not allowed and fall under Step-1 of the Province’s re-opening plan; tentative date is week of June 14.

About the club

We are a family-oriented tennis club with nearly 200 members in the west end of Ottawa. Our 3 floodlit, plexipave-surfaced courts were resurfaced in 2014. In 2017 we added our first Pickleball court. We have a small clubhouse with washroom facilities and plentiful parking. Our mission is to provide high quality, user-friendly facilities and services that will allow you to enjoy the lifetime sports of tennis and pickleball in your own community. Please join us!

Registration is ongoing. Once you are registered, simply COVID-19 screen and book a court online, tag up and play! Check the Programs page for times when court availability may be limited.

Details of our 2021 youth lessons are still being determined. Details will be posted as soon as they are known.

President's message

Dear Members,                        Crystal Beach Tennis Club 2021 Season

Welcome to that Spring and Summer air which is once again happily surrounding us. This year, unfortunately, COVID-19 remains a major factor but we still plan to open. To date, we are in shut-down status and an opening date in early May 2021 is the best we can expect under City of Ottawa and Provincial guidelines.  The club is located on City of Ottawa land and the City has been helpful to us.

The Club has prepared its Safety Plan and this will be forwarded to the City of Ottawa for approval. That has been established as a pre-requisite before the City of Ottawa will provide permission to open the courts.

We are proceeding to take membership registrations, even if it may have to be restricted somewhat and the main policies of the City of Ottawa are as follows:

  1. Maintain 3m distancing between persons, with a maximum of 2 players per court allowed on the courts/Club house grounds
  2. Spectators are not allowed with the exception of one parent/guardian for a participant under 18
  3. Singles play only. No doubles
  4. Pre-booking of Court time will be a requirement through an online system, along with passing a COVID-19 screening questionnaire in order to play

The club has always been low priced historically and this is why membership fees remain the same as last year.  The expense of operations has to be met and court surface maintenance is always a concern annually because of the impact of Winter ice and Summer heat. Early Bird reduced rate in our membership fees will be in effect up to May 30, 2021. Once a person or family purchases a membership, the lock code will be provided to you for accessing the courts. However, that combination lock will not be placed on the gate until we get the go-ahead from the City to open the club for the season.

Thank you all for being members of our community club.

May you all have a great tennis season.

Ian Ashe, President, Crystal Beach Tennis Club, April 11, 2021
